The Kalispell African Drum Group
Everyone is Welcome!
Come and play West African rhythms in an informal setting here in Kalispell.

We are a group of (sometimes very) amateur drum players who meet approximately once a week to learn new rhythms and play together.  All ages, skill levels, and experience levels should have a good time.  We have extra drums - just bring yourself!

The style of drumming we study is taken from West Africa from such countries as Mali, Ghana, Guinea, and Senegal.  We use mostly the djembe (pictured at left - click the picture for a larger version) ) or ashiko type of drums with accompaniment with djun-djuns, bells, and shakers.

We usually meet on Sunday evenings, but we sometimes change our schedule based on the needs of the group members.  Our meetings are informal, usually at one of our houses for about two hours.

If you are a beginning drummer or have never tried this type of drumming before, feel free to join us - we can accommodate people of all skill levels.  If you are more advanced or possess musical talent in other areas, then by all means come; West African music is different from standard Wester
n music in many ways - we can provide a challenge for everyone.

Our founder and former leader, Craig Naylor, has moved to Fredericksburg, VA.  The members of the group now share in the responsibility of running it:
Facilitator - Bob Sherrick
Secretary/Treasurer - Kathy Britton

Come on down - the more drummers we have, the more fun we have!
